Artist Application

The Museum of Visual Materials has two galleries for art, the Main Gallery and the Faithe Gallery. Information on both spaces is listed below. If you are interested in learning more or completing an application, contact Anna at anna@sfmvm.com

Main Gallery Requirements & Information

1. Minimum of 3 images of art must be submitted by email to Anna to be accepted or denied by jury.
2. All artworks must be able to be hung by wire or it will not be accepted.
3. Images including frame must be at least 11 in. x 17 in. An exception to size minimum is if multiple pieces create one series, for example (10) 5 x7 pieces create a series.
4. Every piece must have a label including at least artist’s name, title, and price. Size is optional.
5. Every exhibitor must provide an artist statement/bio to be displayed in gallery, preferably printed on card stock or attached to mat board.
6. All entries of original art or prints must be your own work (or prints of your own work).
7. The museum does not handle art sale transactions. The artist and buyer must negotiate separately without museum staff. The museum does not take a percentage of artist’s sale. We will give customers information to artist upon guest’s interest in purchasing.
8. Visitors of the museum are allowed to take photos in the museum.
9. A fee of $95 along with a sign copy of exhibition agreement is due 2 months prior to date the art will be in gallery. Exhibition agreement can be found by emailing Anna. This fee includes gallery space and art reception with limited refreshments. Museum will provide 3 bottles of wine, cheese and crackers at the artist reception. The museum will provide additional wine through their alcohol distributor for a fee of $10 per bottle. No outside beverages permitted.
10. Duration of art exhibit is 2 months. Artist are responsible for taking down own art at designated time discussed between artist and art director.
11. All entrants grant Museum of Visual Materials the right to use or publish images of their work to promote the art exhibits, future call for entries, videos, or the art galleries. All accepted entries will be placed on this website or blog.
12. Featured artists cannot have a show more than once per year. Excluded from this rule is artist included in a collaboration show.
13. If you would like to make your art reception a fundraiser a fee of $300 will be charged.
14. Main gallery hours are M-W; 9am-4pm. Please call for availability on Thursdays and Fridays.

Faithe Gallery Requirements & Information

1. Minimum of 3 images of art must be submitted by email to Anna to be accepted or denied by jury.
2. Artworks must have a wire on back to be hung on walls.
3. Every piece must have a label at least including artist’s name, title and price. Size is optional.
4. Every exhibitor must provide an artist statement/bio  to be displayed in gallery.
5. All entries of original art or prints must be your own work (or prints of your own work).
6. The museum does not handle art sale transactions. The artist and buyer must negotiate separately without museum staff. The museum does not take a percentage of artist’s sale. We will give customers information to artist upon guest’s interest in purchasing.
