In this month’s Homeschool Art Class, we created sculptures based on artist, Alexander Calder, or otherwise called by his nickname, Sandy. We discussed the difference between stabiles(stationary) and mobiles (moving) sculptures. We learned that Sandy grew up in a creative environment with his father being a sculptor and mother being a portrait painter. Sandy first studied to be an engineer, then later realizing a career in art would be best for him.
We created sculptures out of clay, beads, buttons, and wire, and foam paper. Calder worked with wire and found objects to create his sculptures and we did just that. We cut natural, organic, colorful shapes to top the wires.
Join us for next month's Homeschool Art! We will be learning about famous pop artist, Andy Warhol!
