Our reading corner is filled with stories for young children. It is a great area in the museum to slow down from the playing and enjoy a great story. We also have a fun reading rug that is great for our toy cars to cruise around in make believe land.
Don’t forget Storytime second Monday of every month at 10am!
Children’s books are great for learning simple words, but some of our young visitors may not know any words quite yet. That’s okay! They make up for themselves of what is being told in the story. They are using their imagination to make up their own story based on what they see in the pictures. It is necessary in the learning process and improves cognitive development. The anticipation of what will happen next, hearing the sounds of new and old words and seeing the pictures is an engaging and fun learning experience.
Of course, a huge advantage of reading to young children is a higher ability to learn in all areas of subjects. The more you read with your child, the more your preparing them for school.
Creating warm memories with your child to a good story will last a lifetime. When your child hears you tell them a story, you are improving vocabulary skills and communication skills. Its great for a child to see you read, because they want to imitate you, do what you do, which makes them have ambition to be able to read just like their parent or caretaker someday.
