For those who missed it, one spectacular Royal Wedding took place on Saturday, May 19, 2018 with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry exchanging their vows in front of millions of people. This Wedding Wednesday, we are sharing some of our favorite ideas from the day and the following are a just a few ways to incorporate aspects you loved about the Royal Wedding into your own:
1. Hand-Picked Bouquet
Meghan's bouquet, consisting of sweet peas, lily of the valley, jasmine, astilbe, astrantia, sprigs of myrtle, and Forget-Me-Nots (Princess Diana's favorite flowers), included several flowers that were actually hand-picked by Prince Harry himself from their private garden at Kensington Palace. What a romantic idea for any couple! This is an excellent way to add a personal touch and meaning to a traditional aspect of your wedding.
2. Timeless Look
A reflection of herself, Meghan decided to go with a look from Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy who created her simplistic, elegant look - one that is certainly timeless. She also stuck with a hair/make-up look that focused on her natural beauty. She went with something that was uniquely her and that's the best advice for anyone's wedding look.
3. Fun First Dance
Feel free to choose a first dance song that's as unique as you are! It doesn't have to be the romantic, slow song that everyone is picturing - an upbeat song that relates to your relationship can do just the trick! Harry and Meghan chose the 1987 hit "I want to Dance with Somebody" by Whitney Houston.
4. Untraditional Cake
Don't be afraid to be bold and actually have the dessert you love! Harry and Meghan decided to break a longstanding tradition of royals having fruitcake at their weddings - so they went with a lemon elderflower cake by Claire Ptak. It's said time and time again, but nothing has to follow traditional wedding aspects if you don't want it to.
5. Forego the Gifts
The happy couple decided to forego any traditional wedding gifts and, instead, asked thier guests to donate to select causes that were meaningful to them. This is a fantastic idea - especially for those who have everything they already need - to give back to the community in a way that is meaningful to you on your wedding day.
