We love utilizing our venue for weddings and private events alike and, as a unique downtown Sioux Falls venue with lots of history, we have some rules about decorating in order to continue to preserve our building. We don't allow confetti, popcorn, fireworks, rice, sand, birdseed, Silly String, glitter, tape, glue, nails, pins, spray paint, spray of any kind, or Play Dough. So how, you might ask, does one go about decorating at the Museum? Well, wedding decorating can be a daunting task, especially with a few restrictions, but no worries! I am here to share with you 5 tips for decorating at the Museum that will surely make you more comfortable carrying out this task.
Tip #1: Wire & Zip Ties
You can utilize the beams within the building and either wrap wire around them to hang decorations from the ceiling or zip tie a decoration. Here is an example where one couple decided to hang a wreath by wire on the beam above their sweetheart table. Doesn't it look fantastic?
Tip #2: Ribbon
Ribbon is another great way to hang decorations up in the venue! In addition to the beams, we have metal rods on either side of the center poles that make great places for hanging items.
Tip #3: Bolts
There are some bolts sticking out of the stone wall where the fenced-in areas are that you can utilize to hang some decorations on. Below is an example of that being utilized.
Tip #4: Metal Bars
There are metal bars along the length of the stone walls where our art gallery is hung up. These metal bars can also be used to hang your decorations. Here is an example of a couple who utilized these metal bars in a fun way to decorate behind their head table!
Tip #5: Minimalism
Overall, what's great about our space if that there is not always a need for a ton of decorating. The building itself is full of natural beauty and whatever you do decide to add to the room will only build upon the character.
