I want to show you a handy little painting technique to use with your projects!
I got three wood blocks that I chopped myself with a miter saw. You could make it easier on yourself and head to the craft store to pick up some pre-cut and finished wood shapes. Lots of shapes and sizes to pick from at the craft stores!
Put on a coat of paint on the entire block. This will be your background color.
Then, cut out a paper template. Cut a shape out yourself, like I did with the hearts. Or you can print off a template or use a stencil for more difficult shapes, like bunnies or stars. Letters, for your initials would be a great idea too!
Place your paper shape on top of the wood. I then grabbed a medium-large paint brush with just a bit of white acylic paint and lightly painted white all around the block, keeping the paper heart in place. This technique is called dry brushing. I love this technique because it looks a bit rustic/vintage.
I thought it turned out great! So nice to make your home decor sometimes, rather than paying for overpriced decoration at the store!
Thinking ahead to Easter... how cute did these turn out?
Attach twine or burlap for a farmhouse chic look. We wil be creating this craft in our April's Craft Night. Stay tune for when registration will be open on our Adult Classes page.
